meet "major benjamin von fremont"!

listed on the urgent board of germanshepherds.com, the write-up said the sandusky county dog warden had picked this guy up as a stray, and named him benji. the write-up also said he had a large wound in his neck, and there were some catch-22 rules which prevented dogs in this pound from being vetted until they're adopted. so, benji-boy sat in the pound, waiting and waiting, with little treatment of his wound, while we looked for someone closer to him to help. we finally decided we just couldn't wait any longer, and niece paula and god-daughter katie road-tripped down in the 'blackmobile' and scooped him right up. when we took him to dr. tim at belleville animal hospital, we found out that he not only had the neck injury, but a fractured canine tooth and some abrasions under one eye. we have no idea what happened or how he got these injuries, but he's well on the way to good health now! we also found he had a microchip, and traced him to a shelter in st. petersburg, florida (!!!), where, at 8 weeks of age in march of 2001, he was named "major" and adopted out to "jeremy". we traced this history further and found that jeremy had moved to ohio, and had given major away. at that point the trail grew cold, we decided not to search further. the original plan was for niece paula and god-daughter katie to foster ben, but, in fact, this looks like it's gonna be another foster failure, because paula and katie have become very attached to this sweet boy, who we've re-named, "major benjamin von fremont", just "ben" or "bennie" to his friends! one-by-one. another one saved!
